Vice President, Technical Engineering - Cable TV

Job Description:
Vice President, Technical Engineering sought to direct and manager overall Engineering and Technology efforts for specific region.
Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the overall Engineering and Technology efforts for a specific area.
- Function as the chief area technical resource to the engineering planning and decision-making as it relates to architectural development and implementation and the development and deployment of new services and technology throughout the area.
- Plans, schedules, and assures completion of facilities, RF, optical, digital video, and VOD maintenance programs.
- Manages and or directs the management of large scale projects.
- Responsible for collaborating with the marketing and programming group in developing and maintaining the RF Bandwidth plan.
- Assures that proper documentation of RF, optics, channel plans, power systems, space, and HVAC is kept accurate and current.
- Completes staffing plan to assure that critical headend facilities are manned 7x24x365 and that problem resolution time is minimized.
- Directs the management of required software upgrades to various signal delivery components to assure that customer affecting issues are minimized.
- Coordinates response to complex technical issues that may require vendor engineering, field engineering, consultant, region, division, and or national support.
- Assures that proper spares inventories are maintained and that software for these devices is kept up to date.
- Works with field engineering management to resolve issues that may be caused by interactions or improper engineering of the combined fiber/ RF distribution network.
- Prepares Area Engineering budget and is responsible for operating his department within budget.
- Creates and assures training and implementation of disaster recovery plans.
- Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Assures compliance with regulatory agency policies, rules, and other requirements.
- Completes personnel skills assessment, develops training plan and assures completion for his group.
- Monitor technical performance of system to comply with all FCC, NJBPU, FAA, and company technical requirements. Maintain a state-of-the-art technology knowledge base.
- Ensure competence and continuity of qualified staff through optimum selection, development, appraisal and
- motivation techniques in accordance with EEO policy and appropriate policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with public and governmental agencies. - Ensure that industry standards are consistently met and that technical operations comply with system, Division and OSHA safety programs.
- Responsible for meeting all quarterly objectives associated with this position. Perform other related duties as assigned. Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or the recognized equivalent in work experience, or a combination of work experience and education.
- Thorough understanding of FCC technical standards. Thorough knowledge of digital video, VOD, Optical and RF transport, RF lashup, and CATV facilities engineering. Engineering management experience in a CATV environment.
- Basic knowledge of IP Networking. Proven customer service skills.
- General knowledge of computer hardware architectures. Ability to use personal computer and software applications.
- Strong organization, prioritization, and program management skills. Ability to show good judgment and initiative. Ability to coach, supervise and train others.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing in a clear and concise manner.
- Minimum 7 – 9 years experience in a major market cable system operation or multiple location cable system operation and / or telecommunications service provider, including 5 years management experience.
